About me

In order to understand why I am the way I am, I thought I would share my life story:

I came into the world just like any other chicken. Here I am as an egg being delivered to the house by the stork:

This is me not long after hatching (I certainly would have been glad to get out of the egg with feet that size!!)

Next I was taken to chicken school, I learned basic behaviours like laying eggs, clucking, pooping everywhere and other normal chicken activities

I was grateful for my time in school and my friends. However, something wasn’t quite right.  I found myself pacing the barn, I could not lay the same amount of eggs as the other chickens and I was teased about my height and my feathers.  I ended up spending most nights, alone, circling the barn perimeter, dreaming of another life, a better one, a more fun one.

Then it happened, one night I noticed the bottom of the chicken wire sitting just above the ground with lose soil under it. So, each night I would use my newly taught scratching skills to scratch a hole under the fence for me to break free.

Each night I would flee from the barn yard, not sure what I was looking for, but I knew there had to be more than laying eggs and living in the barn.   So I went looking.  I found books (couldn’t understand them, but they had great pictures), I found photos of the most amazing things, I saw on the tv pictures of people doing all sorts of things like; riding in planes (I have always wished I could fly), jumping off bridges, and lots of strange places.

It was at that moment I decided I was going to do all those things.

Excited by my findings, my night trips out of the barn started to become day trips, I tried my own bungee, which wasn’t as fun as I thought (could be because I had to chew through the rope to get down and ended up with prickles in some very unfortunate places).

Ready, Set..........

I played a game called ‘chicken’ (you stand on the road in front of a car, and the first to pull away was the loser.)  No one told me what happens when the car just drives straight over you, is that a tie?

Before I knew it school was finishing, it was time to graduate and move on:

My career councilor had a number of jobs for me, all of them promised strong promotion/ career path. The other chickens were all applying for the big corporate companies like KFC, it all sounded very impressive and exciting.  However, I felt like I had only started my exploring, and it was now time for me to branch out and see what was outside the farm.

It seemed luck was on my side; a couple people on the farm had just begun planning their trip overseas and thought it would be funny if I came along.

Which brings me to now, and this blog, getting ready for my very first trip, with dreams of many more to come.

It is my goal that this blog will inspire others to follow in my footsteps, to take some time out of their busy lives and see what the world has to offer. I give you a 100% chicken guarantee you will come back a changed person!
